Have you always wanted to give snorkeling a try? If so, a Maui vacation is the perfect place to realize your dreams. That’s because the Hawai’ian Islands are home to two of the best snorkeling hot spots in the world.
The first snorkeling spot to put on your Maui vacation’s “to do” list is Molokini. What helps set it apart from the rest of world’s snorkeling spots is that it is a 23 acre volcanic caldera filled with pristine waters. The caldera itself is considered to be a marine life conservation area. In addition to being a marine sanctuary, it is located near a seabird sanctuary. Because of those features, the area is home to an incredibly vast array of flora and fauna. Just some of the creatures that you are likely to see during your visit are yellow tang, raccoon butterfly fish, whale sharks and frigate birds.
The second snorkeling spot that you won’t want to miss is Turtle Town. Nestled between Black Sand Beach and Nahuna point, it contains the remnants of old submarine volcanoes. Those resulting lava formations are now home to one of the area’s most famous residents, Hawai’ian green sea turtles. These majestic, gentle giants remain in the area in abundance. Of course they are not the only sea creatures in the area either. You’ll also find a large assortment of algae, mollusks, jellyfish, tubeworms, sea grasses and sponges. They are just some of the creatures that the sea turtles love to dine on. When the Hawai’ian green sea turtles aren’t busy eating, you may also encounter them sunbathing on our island’s pristine sands.
There are many tour companies that offer snorkeling excursions to the two areas. However, one of the best ways to get there is by double deck catamaran complete with a glass bottom viewing area. We can help you arrange a double deck catamaran ride to both areas if you like.
