Get Maui Beautiful with DIY Spa Treatments

Get Maui Beautiful with DIY Spa Treatments

May 8, 2015 by Maui Kai

How’s your skin? Is it ready to peek out of those Hawaiian tops and shorts that you plan on packing for your Maui vacation? If not, we’ve got a few made in Hawaii beauty spa treatments that you might want to try. They involve three of our island’s gourmet foods, Hawaiian gold cane sugar, honey and sea salt. The cane sugar and sea salt are part of DIY tropical scrubs, which will exfoliate dead cells and brighten up your skin. As for the Hawaiian honey, it is incorporated into DIY facials masks designed to rehydrate thirsty, healthy skin. Here are the recipes:

Hawaiian Cane Sugar Scrub

This scrub’s base contains two teaspoon of Hawaiian gold cane sugar for every one tablespoon of oil. In Hawaii, we like to use virgin coconut oil but you can use other types if you prefer. Good choices are jojoba, olive and sunflower. If you don’t have a suitable bottle of oil sitting on your shelf, use a few drops of fresh Hawaiian pineapple juice and water instead. Just go really easy on the water. Otherwise it will dissolve the cane sugar and in order for the scrub to work, the crystals must remain coarse.

Hawaiian Sea Salt Scrub

Hopefully when making your sugar scrubs, you didn’t use up all of the oil because you’re going to need it to whip up this next Hawaiian beauty treatment. Simply take one cup of our island’s sea salt and combine it with ½ of a cup of oil. That will constitute the base of your salt scrub. Once you have the base, feel free to add a few drops of Hawaiian pineapple juice or Hawaiian lavender oil to the mix. It will give the scrub a pleasing, Hawaiian Islands’ aroma.

Hawaiian Honey Moisturizing Masks

To round out your DIY beauty treatments, reach for a jar of Hawaiian honey and some aloe vera gel. Simply mix two teaspoons of organic honey with every one teaspoon of aloe vera gel. If you don’t have aloe vera gel at home, reach for the coconut milk and mashed avocados instead. Use two tablespoons of each and add it to the Hawaiian honey until a thick paste forms. Afterward, slather the paste on to your face and let it sit for 30 minutes while you relax and dream about your Maui vacation.
